What are solid wood blinds?

Solid wood venetian blinds, as their name implies, consist of wooden slats and operate in an up-and-down fashion. The organic texture of these wooden louvers evokes a sense of connection with nature. They effortlessly complement a variety of interior design styles, including the rustic charm of American country, the sleek simplicity of Nordic minimalism, or the unique character of personalized British industrial decor.

What distinguishes ‘’wooden blinds’’ from ‘’wooden shutters’’? Many customers often confuse the two terms, so allow me to clarify the disparity between them.

  1. Overall Design Variations:

Wooden blinds, as the name implies, resemble typical roller blinds, featuring drawstrings or bead chains for raising and lowering, with the ability to fold and flip. On the other hand, wooden louvers encompass a complete set of window frames crafted from wood, providing a cohesive window treatment. While they offer vertical operation and blade flipping functionality, they are distinct in their entirety, resulting in higher product and installation costs.

  1. Leaf Width Discrepancies:

Wooden blinds typically boast wider blades, commonly available in widths of 63mm and 76mm. In contrast, wooden louvers predominantly feature slat widths of 25mm and 50mm.

The solid wood blinds utilized for curtain roller blinds consist of basswood blades and components sourced from Europe, characterized by their thick and smooth texture. Beyond the standard Nibe series with flat surfaces, we also offer the specially treated matte Kemi series. For those who admire the aesthetics of solid wood blinds but require waterproof capabilities, our PVC imitation wood grain Oulu series presents a viable alternative!

What Are the Characteristics of Wooden Blinds? What Are the Advantages of Each?

  1. Warm in Winter and Cool in Summer

When discussing the advantages of wooden blinds, we must first highlight the benefits provided by the wood itself. Thanks to the fiber structure in wood, it acts as a "poor conductor" of heat. Its excellent thermal insulation properties help keep interiors warm in winter and cool in summer. Wooden blinds significantly contribute to this effect. Especially under the influence of global warming, those of us living in countries with subtropical island climates need this type of window decoration to help us be environmentally friendly and save electricity!

  1. Adjustable Angle

Compared to ordinary roller blinds or cloth curtains, the light control function of wooden blinds is superior. They do more than just open and close up and down; you can adjust the angle of the slats to control the amount of light entering a room while maintaining privacy. This feature allows for excellent light management without sacrificing privacy. It's a perfect blend of privacy and light blocking!

  1. Easy to Clean

Concerned about cleanliness? Wooden blinds are less likely to accumulate dust and attract dust mites compared to ordinary cloth curtains. They don't require disassembly for washing and reinstallation. Simply use a vacuum cleaner, dry cloth, or feather duster to remove dust. For more stubborn dirt, a damp cloth can be used for spot cleaning. If you have PVC wood-like blinds, they can even be washed directly with water. Isn't that convenient? Saving time and effort on cleaning is a key consideration when choosing curtains!

  1. Durable and Long-Lasting

Wooden blinds are resistant to deformation, wear, and fading. With proper care and operation, they can last for more than ten years, sparing you the hassle of frequent replacements. This durability makes them a wise, long-term investment for your home.

Disadvantages of Wooden Blinds

While wooden blinds offer many advantages, they also come with some inconveniences. Here are a few to consider:

  1. Limited Light Blocking

Unlike roller blinds or cloth curtains, which use a single piece of fabric, wooden blinds have gaps between the slats. This design can only achieve about 95% light blocking. If you require complete darkness, wooden blinds might not meet your expectations.

  1. Lack of Waterproofing

Wooden blinds are not suitable for environments with high moisture levels, as prolonged exposure to water can cause the wood to warp. For bathroom use, we recommend considering the imitation wood grain PVC venetian blinds from the Oulu series, which are designed to withstand moisture.

  1. Less Diverse Decorative Options

Compared to roller blinds and fabric curtains, wooden blinds offer fewer options in terms of fabrics and patterns. As a result, their decorative versatility may be somewhat limited. If a wide range of decorative choices is important to you, wooden blinds might not be the best option.

Five Unexpected Features and Advantages of Wooden Blinds

"But wooden blinds seem so traditional. No one uses them anymore, right?!" If you think that way, let us dispel some common misconceptions about wooden blinds with these key points:

  1. Difficult to Match Colors? Think Again!

The colors of wooden blinds have evolved, offering a wide range of options from cool to warm tones, including both flat and matte finishes. Even if the original color of wooden blinds doesn't suit your home decor, you can almost always find a suitable alternative.

  1. Too Heavy for Your Home? Not True!

Wooden blinds, like roller blinds, can be raised and lowered easily. They take up less space compared to cloth curtains and provide a simple, neat appearance when installed. They are, in fact, a popular choice for many minimalist-style homes!

  1. Effective Shading? Absolutely!

The shading and privacy levels of wooden blinds are controlled by adjusting the angle of the slats. Wooden blinds can achieve up to 95% light blocking and 100% privacy, making them an excellent solution for rooms with windows directly facing the outside.

  1. Poor Ventilation? Not at All!

Thanks to the gaps between the slats, even when the blinds are closed, air circulation is maintained, keeping the space well-ventilated and the air fresh.

  1. Traditional Look? Think Modern!

While they may have a traditional origin, modern wooden blinds are designed with contemporary aesthetics in mind. They blend seamlessly with various interior styles, adding a touch of elegance and functionality to your home.

Things to Note When Purchasing:

  • Customized Size Range for Manual System: Width 45–240 cm × Height 80–240 cm
  • You can choose to operate with a rope or a circulating bead chain. Due to the weight of the wooden blinds, if the width or height exceeds 226 cm, we recommend using the circulating bead chain or electric system, or ordering with the window removed for easier operation.
  • Additionally, for the drawstring option, you can choose 25mm ladder straps, 35mm ladder straps, or thin ladder ropes. The loop bead chain operation only offers the thin ladder rope option.
  • Customized Size Range for Electric System: Width 80–240 cm × Height 80–240 cm
