How to Choose the Right Curtain Size for Your Windows?

When selecting roller blind products, you will find that most stores ask you to provide the actual width and height dimensions you need. Some customers may be deterred from purchasing because they find measuring dimensions complicated and difficult, thus missing out on the opportunity to enhance their windows with affordable and beautiful new treatments.

We don't want you to miss out on enhancing your windows with beautiful new treatments due to measurement concerns. Here are the secrets to measuring for roller blinds accurately. Before you start, gather the following tools: a metal tape measure, paper, pencil, and a ladder. Pay attention to these important tips:

  1. Use a Metal Tape Measure: Always use a metal tape measure, as a cloth tape measure can lead to errors.
  2. Decide on Installation Type: Determine if your roller blinds will be installed inside the frame or outside the frame. The measurement methods differ for each type.
  3. Curtain Coverage Width: The width you measure should be the width of the curtain coverage, not the window width.
  4. Record Measurements Correctly: Note down measurements in the order of width x height to avoid any confusion later.
  5. Round Up Measurements: Curtains should be measured to the nearest 0.5 cm. Round up as necessary.
  6. Measure Multiple Points: Windows are rarely perfectly square. Measure at multiple points for both width and height to avoid discrepancies.

By following these steps, you'll ensure your roller blinds fit perfectly and look stunning in your space.

Roller Blind Size Measurement

First, let’s introduce the method of measuring within the frame:

In-Frame Measurement** refers to installing the roller blind on the inside of the window frame. This method provides a simple and neat appearance, making it suitable for environments with narrow spaces and reducing the extra area occupied by the thickness of the blinds.

Measurement Method:

  1. Width: Measure the inner width of the window frame. Please measure the upper, middle and lower positions. Choose the narrowest number and deduct 1 cm as the reserved space in advance.
  2. Height: Measure the inner height of the window frame. Please measure the left, middle and right positions and choose the largest number.
  3. Depth: Measure from the outer edge of the window frame to the deepest part of the window. If there are obstacles, such as window handles, please measure from the outer edge to the position of the obstacle.

Next, let’s explain the method of measuring outside the frame: Measuring Outside the Frame

By analogy with the above, it means installing roller blinds on the outside of the window frame, which can be used to cover unsightly windows and also meet the needs for better light shading and privacy.

  1. Width: Measure the complete width of the window frame, plus the width you want to extend the coverage. It is generally recommended to extend the left and right sides by 10 cm.
  2. Height: Measure the full height of the window frame, plus the height you want to extend to cover.
